Though I agree with what Turabian claims, Farber and Tucker point out how c rucial it is, to incorporate the period within which her claims hold based on the evident changes that have taken place since the publishing of the fourth edition of Student’s Guide to Writing College Papers. This evident based on the various developments in writing contributed largely by the emergence of new technologies prompting new considerations in the writing styles. STRAP ON THAT BOOK

STRAP ON THAT BOOK Went to the community recreation center to walk the track, and I noticed a new childrens book on the counter where we check in. The rec center has allowed authors to put childrens books up there before, since so many kids are involved in the programs. I flipped through it, to see if it was self-published or traditional (it was self-pubbed)I asked about it, and the director said a retired school teacher wrote it. The illustrations were nice. A pretty book. I just published my book recently, I said. Oh, what kind? Mystery. The setting is in the Lowcountry, on Edisto, I said. Do you have one with you? I LOVE mysteries. So does my mother, she said. There I stood in workout clothes, no make-up and straight hair, and I caught myself selling my book. I promised her one the next day. (Which meant I had to return to workout, you know.) So I gave her the book the next day and went to the track (love that air-conditioned track, nine laps equals a mile). When I came down, she handed me the money. Her co-worker piped up. You wouldnt On another day, I went to get my hair cut. I carried the book this time, and my hairdresser bought it. And wouldnt you know it . . . the shop owner wanted a copy too, and Id only brought one. I returned that afternoon with eight, and they put them on sale to customers, in exchange for giving the owner one free. Whats cool is that these people will tell other people about the author THEY KNOW, who writes this great mystery set in their HOME state. Its all about connections . . . and having a book available. From that point on, I decided to keep books in the proverbial trunk of my car, only mine are in a dry cooler in the back of an SUV, so the sun doesnt cook them. One thing you learn once you publish a book . . . it needs to be with you at all times. Youre talking it up to everyone, so why shouldnt it be handy? When budgeting for your promotional efforts, whether traditionally or self-published, be prepared to sell or give away a good number of books at inopportune moments. Dont get caught empty-handed, because those precious moments of opportunity might not come back around. If youre an author, that means you write books, and the public takes it for granted you have one in your back pocket.

The Truth about Sammy in A & P   Ã‚   At first glance, Sammy, the first-person narrator of John Updike's "A & P," would seem to present us with a simple and plausible explanation as to why he quits his job at the grocery store mentioned in the title: he is standing up for the girls that his boss, Lengel, has insulted. He even tries to sell us on this explanation by mentioning how the girls' embarrassment at the hands of the manager makes him feel "scrunchy" inside and by referring to himself as their "unsuspected hero" after he goes through with his "gesture." Upon closer examination, though, it does not seem plausible that Sammy would have quit in defense of girls whom he quite evidently despises, despite the lustful desires they invoke, and that more likely explanations of his action lie in his boredom with his menial job and his desire to rebel against his parents.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   While it's true that Sammy finds the three scantily-clad girls who enter the supermarket attractive, as would any normal nineteen-year-old male, what is most notable about his descriptions of the girls, and particularly of the "leader" of the group, is that Sammy holds them in contempt. Once we get beyond the descriptions of their bodies, we see nothing but derogatory comments directed at them, including the derisive nicknames that Sammy assigns to them. Nowhere is this more evident than in Sammy's description of the leader, "Queenie." The nickname assigned to her by Sammy points out the stereotypical snap judgment that Sammy makes about her personality and social status initially, and to which Sammy rigidly adheres despite no real evidence of its accuracy. From the description of her "prima donna" legs, to his imagining of ... ...gel's suggestion that he relent and keep his job, Sammy is actually saying "no" to his parents and their attempt to put him on the road to middle-class respectability.      Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the final analysis, it would seem that the most obvious explanation for why Sammy quits his job--the one that he implies--is actually the least plausible. While Sammy would like to portray himself as the fearless defender of the delicate sensibilities of innocent girls, the reality is that Sammy's motives in quitting have far more to do with his own sensibilities than with those of the three girls. Scenario 2 (1) Under IFRSs: The land contamination gives rise to a constructive obligation because the conduct of the entity has created a valid expectation in other parties that the entity will clean up the contamination (IAS 37.17). Also, it is probable that payments are required. Thus, a provision is recognized for the best estimate of the cleanup costs. (2) Under US GAAP: An environmental remediation liability should be recognized if an entity is a potentially responsible party to clean up the contamination and the entity has a record to determine that it is associated with the site (ASC 410-30-25-15).
